1. Bring in the light
Lighting is an essential ingredient when you’re decorating your home. The right lighting lifts the mood and can make a room look instantly larger. Bring warmth to areas with fewer windows by adding floor and table lamps. LED lights are a great alternative as they’re cost-effective and energy-efficient in the long run. Also, take advantage of natural light by setting up areas that you spend most of your time near north-facing windows.
2. Show your personality
The way we decorate our homes is a great way to show our personality, so have fun and play around. It can be tough to keep up with the latest trends so why not just stick with what brings you joy. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. You can simply refresh old cushions by adding a new cover, create texture by adding rugs and throws or dress up bookshelves by incorporating decorative items.
3. Highlight your walls
One of the easiest ways to change the look and feel of a room is by adding colour to your walls. Whether it’s a simple coat of paint or wallpaper, feature walls can help highlight areas in open plan living spaces and create a statement piece. With more time spent at home lately, now is the perfect time to pick up that paintbrush and try some DIY projects.
4. Invest in statement pieces
Don’t fill a room with all statement pieces. Remember if everything is special, then nothing is special. Let your statement piece stand out and be the focus in your room. Whether it’s a large piece of artwork or a feature chair, it can really bring a room together and enhance your home’s overall design.
5. Ditch the clutter
Home is where you should feel most comfortable and at ease. If it’s bringing more stress and anxiety, then it might be time to declutter. Start by investing in smart organisation solutions and donate items that you no longer use. Just remember to tackle one area at a time. By attempting your whole home in one day, it can be overwhelming and you’re more likely to give up.
6. Bring the outside indoors
Indoor plants are the answer to many decorating dilemmas. Looking to inject colour into a room? Add a plant. Is your interior feeling lifeless? Indoor plants will fix that. Wondering how to fill that awkward, empty space in your home? Pop an indoor plant in there. Not only do plants make a room feel finished, but with a bit of creativity, they can also become the star of the show.
