A home’s look is never really finished. It’s a constant work in progress, as your tastes and needs evolve. Even with a concerted effort, it can take years to bring a room close to the idealised, magazine-ready version in your head. But then, isn’t that part of the fun? There’s always the next thing to research, track down and acquire. Or better yet, stumble on serendipitously. Here are my favourite spots in Melbourne for finding beautiful tableware, furniture, bed linens and more.
Mud Australia
Since 1994, Mud Australia has created elegant and timeless porcelain homewares that are the perfect addition to any home. Their wide selection of colours can easily compliment your existing decor at home, or alternatively, a pop of feature colour to draw attention. Head down to their stores, located in both Fitzroy and Armadale and have some fun playing mix and match.
Goodspace
Goodspace is a Melbourne base vintage furniture retailer on Instagram. Started by two single mothers, Steph and Holly, they specialise in redeveloping and repurposing pre-loved furniture. Each piece is unique, and they will instantly add character to your home. You are also going to be doing the world a favour with these sustainable pieces.

Fab Design
Fab Design was created by interior designer Fabiana Loschi. Fabiana designs and handcrafts sustainable wooden decorative items, homewares and furniture from her St Kilda home studio. For those of you with furry kids at home, you must check out the doggy home and cat centre! They make me want to get a pet just so I can buy them.
Jardan
Jardan is a family business started in 1987, now managed by brothers Nick and Michael. Every piece is designed and made in Melbourne. Jardan strives to reduce the environmental footprint and produce sustainable products throughout the entire lifecycle by using quality local materials, reducing waste, and making furniture that truly lasts.
Ettitude
Ettitude is a Melbourne based bedding and sleepwear brand. This online-only retailer creates sheets made from a new-generation bamboo fabric that uses 500 times less water to manufacture and emits 52 per cent less carbon compared to conventional cotton. The result is a breathable fabric that feels good and keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.
While you bring home some new furniture, you can also bring joy to other homes if your pre-loved furniture are still in good condition. Consider donating your furniture to charity organisations like Sacred Heart Mission or West Welcome Wagon.
