If you’re like me, as a resident of Docklands, we recognize what a special place we have here to call home. As one of Melbourne’s suburbs most frequently captured on camera, we truly are spoiled living in such a spectacular setting! Photographers routinely line up along Harbour Esplanade and the Webb Bridge to document the ever-changing skyline with incredible weather patterns & breathtaking sunsets.
We are fortunate to have our very own gallery dedicated to photography right here in District Docklands! Magnet Galleries Melbourne is a social enterprise designed to bring people together with a common interest and passion for photography, in a space where they can share their knowledge and expertise.
Magnet Galleries is both a not-for-profit and registered charity which aims to encourage and foster both established & emerging photographers. Their focus is on both local Australian and world photography. The gallery hosts classes, and seminars all throughout the year, as well as exhibitions both virtually and physically. Their space includes both a library and a bookshop with exhibition spaces that are also available for hire.
As part of their social enterprise Magnet Galleries hosts poetry readings, lectures, book launches, and recitals in their exhibition space with the aim of creating not only a vibrant and creative culture but one that embraces community. Open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am to 4pm, do yourself a favour and stop by to say “hi”.
